On November 6, we gather at sunrise to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (V E) Day and the Liberation of the Netherlands at The Field of Crosses.

This day honours the end of nearly six years of war in Europe, a conflict that cost millions of lives and left lasting scars on nations, families, and communities around the world.

The Sunrise Ceremony will begin at 7:38 a.m., and the Sunset Ceremony at 5:01 p.m. We kindly ask that all guests arrive ten minutes before each ceremony.

May 8, 1945, V E Day marked the surrender of Germany and the end of the war in Europe. For millions, it was a day of immense relief and celebration. Streets filled with people dancing, singing, and rejoicing as the darkness of total war lifted. Yet even amidst the joy, the world was reminded that the fight was not yet over. The war in the Pacific would continue until August 1945, and the effects of the conflict would shape generations to come.

At The Field of Crosses, we reflect on this milestone not only as a historic victory but as a testament to courage, endurance, and the price of peace.

As Canadian Army Day comes to a close, a quiet sense of gratitude settles over The Field of Crosses. Throughout the day, both the sunrise and sunset ceremonies paid tribute to the soldiers who served with honour, courage, and resilience across generations of conflict. Their dedication to our country continues to inspire all who gather here in remembrance.

As we reflect on today’s ceremonies, we also look back on meaningful moments from last evening’s Royal Canadian Navy Day Sunset Ceremony, a reminder of the shared sacrifice and steadfast spirit that unite all who have served beneath the Canadian flag.
